Biographie :

Peter Cushing est un acteur britannique, né le 26 mai 1913 à Kenley, dans le comté de Surrey, et décédé le 11 août 1994 à Canterbury au Royaume-Uni. 

Ayant fait sa formation d'acteur de théâtre en Angleterre, il débuta d'abord en tant que doublure, puis en tant que figurant à Hollywood jusqu'en 1942. Il repartira ensuite vers l'Angleterre, pour y faire de brèves apparitions dans Hamlet de Laurence Olivier en 1948, Moulin Rouge de John Huston en 1953 ainsi que dans Vivre un Grand Amour, réalisé par Edward Dmytryk en 1951.

Il était un spécialiste des films fantastiques, jouant notamment les rôles du baron Frankenstein à six reprises entre 1957 et 1973 (cinq fois sous la direction de Terence Fisher et une fois sous la direction de Freddie Francis) ou de Van Helsing dans les Dracula. De ce fait il a beaucoup joué avec Christopher Lee et a été dirigé par tous les grands metteurs en scène de la Hammer Films (Terence Fisher, John Gilling, Freddie Francis...).

Il sera également l'interprète de Sherlock Holmes dans Le Chien des Baskerville en 1959 de Terence Fisher. Dans Star Wars épisode IV, il interprète le Grand Moff Tarkin. il a également inspiré à Michel Honaker le personnage du "commandeur" héros de la série du même nom.
